About The Old Vic

To us, great theatre is about great plays, great performances and great nights out from the moment you step through the door.

Our iconic building has a rich history of great productions from Olivier's Hamlet to Ian McKellen's Widow Twanky. And under the artistic leadership of Kevin Spacey, we continue to attract the best creative talent.

The Old Vic has no subsidy. Ticket sales alone are not enough to cover all of our costs, so the financial support of generous individuals, companies, trusts and foundations is vital to our existence.

Through Old Vic New Voices we also nurture young actors, writers and directors, and work with schools and out neighbors to bring theatre to a wider audience.

Old Vic New Voices

Nurturing talent, developing work, growing audiences

Old Vic New Voices (OVNV) aims to support young and emerging talent to source and develop new work for production on The Old Vic stage, and to open up the building to new and diverse audiences. We do this in a variety of ways:

Creative Learning projects offer 8-25 year olds a variety of ways to engage with work on The Old Vic stage, learn new skills and hone their creative talents. Since 2004, over 23,000 young people have attended masterclasses and workshops and more than 26,000 have taken advantage of our £12 tickets for under 25s.

Creative Community initiatives introduce thousands of people from Lambeth and Southwark to productions on the main stage with reduced price tickets and dedicated community events.

For those embarking on a professional career in theatre, the new Voices Club offers actor, directors, producers and writer, aged 18-25, the opportunity to learn from industry professionals, receive support for projects they are passionate about, and to network with like-minded peers. Entry is through The 24 Hour Plays: New Voices project, offering young practitioners the chance to take to The Old Vic stage.

OVNV also sources and develops new work for The Old Vic stage and beyond. As part of this commitment, we run the UK US Exchange, exposing emerging writers from London and New York to the theatrical communities on the both sides of the Atlantic, and supporting the development of their work.

We rely on the money raised from The 24 Hour Plays, a glittering annual gala held at the Theatre, and the kind support of our donors to fund all OVNV projects. Find out more about how to support us.
